THE WOODSTOCK POLICE DEPARTMENT PARTNERS WITH NEXTDOOR, THE PRIVATE SOCIAL NETWORK FOR NEIGHBORHOODS

Partnership Allows Department to Send Hyper-Local Updates to Residents on the Private Social Network

February 5, 2019 – The Woodstock Police Department today announced that it has started using Nextdoor (nextdoor.com), the private social network for neighborhoods, to improve city-wide communications by connecting with residents on a hyper-local level.

This integration enables the Woodstock Police Department to use Nextdoor to build stronger, safer and happier communities with the help of Woodstock residents. On Nextdoor, the Woodstock Police Department and Nextdoor neighborhoods are able to work together on important issues affecting and improving Woodstock.

“Woodstock is an innovative and resourceful City. Nextdoor is another great tool we can use to help us better communicate and reach our residents,” said Police Chief Calvin Moss. “We encourage our residents to join us on Nextdoor so that we can work together to promote stronger, healthier neighborhoods.”

Nextdoor is popular amongst Woodstock neighborhoods. More than 6,000 residents are already connected and communicating on the social network.

With Nextdoor, Woodstock residents create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets. The Woodstock Police Department is able to post information, such as public safety issues, community events and activities, and local services to Nextdoor websites within the City.

Nextdoor is free for residents and city departments. Each Woodstock neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website and the Woodstock Police Department is not able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content. All members must verify that they live within the neighborhood before joining Nextdoor. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.

The Woodstock Police Department joins over 5,000 public agencies across the country that are using Nextdoor for Public Agencies to build stronger relationships with residents.

Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit nextdoor.com and enter their address.
